Kyler’s Kicks was founded by 14 year old Kyler Nipper. Kyler was stabbed in his chest in school over his shoes. After emergency surgery saved his life, Kyler struggles with PTSD. Kyler finds healing for himself and others through Kyler’s Kicks. Kyler’s Kicks has proudly given away over 30,000 pairs of shoes since the day that Kyler almost lost his own life over his shoes. Rethink Mental Health promotes mental health empowerment and education in an effort to eliminate the stigmatization of people suffering with mental illness, especially children and young adults. Through our many initiatives, we strive to improve the way society treats and views people with mental health issues. As a result, more people can speak openly about what they are experiencing and seek professional help without the fear of judgement, discrimination or harassment.

The negative stigma on mental health is a serious issue in today’s society. In public stigma, the population endorses stereotypes of mental illness leading them to discriminate against people with that label. Research shows that people with mental illness have fewer opportunities related to work, independent living, and primary health care because of public stigma. Rethink Mental Health Incorporated was founded with the mission to change that with four main initiatives:

  • We host speaking events for schools, businesses and other organizations to educate on ways to combat mental health stigmas.
  • We promote social awareness by inviting others to take the Pledge to ReThink the Stigma and spread this mission.
  • We facilitate a safe space to discuss mental health topics and empower people so they no longer feel alone or ostracized.
