NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. Your local NAMI Affiliates and volunteer leaders work in communities across the country to raise awareness and provide essential and free education, advocacy, and support group programs.

NAMI Savannah Georgia is a support, education, and advocacy organization made up of individuals living with a mental illness and their families and friends. NAMI Savannah offers Recovery Support Groups designed for people living with a mental disorder, Family Support Groups for their loved ones, and education and advocacy programs — all at no cost to participants. NAMI Savannah also partners with local law enforcement through Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training to improve community response to mental health crises.

MHA is a powerful voice for healthy communities throughout the nation and offers information, referrals, and resources for individuals living with any type of mental illness. One of MHA’s services includes online screening, which is one of the quickest and easiest ways to determine whether you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition. Mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety, are real, common and treatable. And recovery is possible.

MHA of Georgia is the primary resource of choice for prevention and early intervention programs, providing information, education, and training in mental health and wellness. Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) changes lives, saves lives and impacts lives, through education, peer support groups and advocacy for those diagnosed with a mental health illnesses and empowers their family and friends to embrace their independence, advocate for improved services, and to love them for who they are.
DBSA Georgia offers peer-run support groups statewide where individuals living with depression, bipolar disorder, and related mood disorders can find comfort and direction in a confidential and supportive setting. American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) – Georgia Chapter serves all of Georgia with a mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. The chapter’s work focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research, and providing outreach and support to individuals who have lost someone to suicide. Volunteers, mental health professionals, educators, and loss survivors work together to build a community that is smart about mental health.

Gateway Behavioral Health Services (Gateway Community Service Board) is a public community-based organization serving eight coastal Georgia counties — including Chatham County (Savannah) — under the direction of the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD). Gateway’s mission is to be a leader in providing comprehensive community services for mental health, substance use disorders, and developmental disorders. Services include outpatient mental health care, crisis stabilization, addiction treatment, case management, developmental disability support, and specialized programs for veterans, youth, adults, and families. A 24/7 walk-in Crisis Stabilization Center is available for adults experiencing behavioral health emergencies.

America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia has served as the food safety net for the Savannah area and coastal Georgia since 1981. Partnering with over 240 churches and nonprofit agencies, Second Harvest provides emergency food assistance across Coastal Georgia, distributing millions of pounds of food annually to children, seniors, low-income families, and people with disabilities facing hunger. Programs include a Mobile Food Pantry, Kids Cafe, Brown Bag for the Elderly, and a searchable partner agency locator to help community members find food resources close to home.

The Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless (CSAH) is the lead coordinating agency for homeless services in Chatham County, supporting more than 6,000 individuals, youth, and families each year through sustainable, community-driven solutions to reduce and ultimately end homelessness. CSAH partners with community leaders, government officials, and nonprofit organizations to increase public understanding of the causes of homelessness and advocates for meaningful policy and systems change. Park Place Outreach has been serving Savannah’s most vulnerable youth since 1984, providing emergency shelter, crisis intervention, and wraparound services to runaway, homeless, and at-risk young people ages 11–21. Park Place is the only place in Savannah where youth can self-admit without an adult, and the Youth Emergency Center is open 24/7/365. Under one mission, Park Place operates four programs: a Youth Emergency Shelter, a Transitional Living Program for young adults ages 18–24, the Family Always Matters (F.A.M.) Preservation Program for teens and families, and a Street Outreach Program for youth experiencing homelessness or trafficking. No youth is ever turned away due to inability to pay.

LIFE — Living Independence for Everyone is Savannah’s Center for Independent Living (CIL), a community disability resource center operated by and for people with disabilities. Serving people with disabilities and their families across 11 counties in Southeast Georgia since 1986, LIFE promotes independent living and advances community change through individual and systems advocacy, peer support, independent living skills training, information and referral, and transitional services. Additional programs include home modification services, an Assistive Technology Outreach Center, and the Students for LIFE Youth Program, which supports young people with disabilities in reaching their full potential.
